BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL RELEASE

July 28, 2020 John Joyce
IMG_9173.jpeg

Today we are proud to release our version of Black Is Beautiful. This 10.5% Imperial Stout is a collaborative effort hosted by Weathered Souls Brewing Co. to raise awareness for the injustices people of color face daily and raise funds for police brutality reform and legal defenses for those who have been wronged. For our version we decided to brew an Imperial Wheat Stout, something we haven't done yet. Featuring Wheat Malt, Chocolate Wheat, Crystal Wheat, Flaked Wheat and a small amount of Barrel Aged Malt from our friends @sugarcreekmalco our version diplays firm roast and chocolate notes with an extremely smooth finish from all of the wheat additons. 100% of proceeds will be donated to our local Dayton Unit NAACP $10 per 750ml Crowler.

We are also launching a new batch of our Little Cloud IPA. This 5.7% easy drinker is hopped intensely with our best Mosaic hops. $8 per 750ml Crowler. Both are available now in our online shop and will be available for pickup today from 2-8pm.

3 NEW BEERS IN CANS LIVE NOW

June 16, 2020 John Joyce
104111116_1178756932484551_2091901908559524911_o.jpg

We have 3 new beers in cans to drop on you all today! Live now for online orders on our webstore at https://branch-bone-artisan-ales.myshopify.com/ are 4 packs of Basket of Light - IPA, Mind Daze- IPA w/Blood Orange, and Powerlines - Sour Ale w/Blackberry and Blueberry.

Basket of Light - IPA 6.5% ABV

This new IPA for us features the unique hop combo of Strata, Motueka, and Azacca. Strata is quickly becoming a favorite of ours around here and the intense citrus, tropical fruits, and dank notes show themselves here. A complex hop on its own is further layered with an even more unique mix of citrus and tropical fruit notes from the accompanying hops. $15.99/4 pack 16oz cans.

Mind Daze - IPA w/Blood Orange 6.8% ABV

We don’t often add fruit to IPA, as we want the unique hop characteristics to shine. When we do, we try to pair hops and fruit that accentuate one another. Here we have doubled down on the citrus with blood orange harmonizing with the tangerine citrus and tropical notes from a combo of Sabro, Samba, and Citra hops. $15.99/4 pack 16oz cans.

Power Lines - Sour Ale w/Blackberry and Blueberry 5% ABV

Our latest fruit fermentation of our berliner-inspired sour beer features blackberry and blueberry. A wonderful mix of color and flavor from the fruit blends with a balanced acidity to make for a great outdoor beer as we swing into Summer. $14.99/4 pack 16oz cans.

These beers are available now to order online for both taproom pickup and shipping throughout Ohio. Walk in orders are welcomed during our normal operating hours as well. Please be aware that orders placed for shipping Thursday-Sunday will ship the following Monday to limit impact from the heat in transit. Thanks for your understanding. Cheers!

THE BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL INITIATIVE

June 9, 2020 John Joyce

Branch & Bone would like to announce our participation in the Black Is Beautiful Initiative championed by Weathered Souls Brewing Co. out of San Antonio. We will be donating 100% of the proceeds from the beer to Dayton Unit NAACP.

More on Black Is Beautiful Initiative:

"The Black is Beautiful initiative is a collaborative effort amongst the brewing community and its customers, in an attempt to bring awareness to the injustices that many people of color face daily. Our mission is to bridge the gap that's been around for ages and provide a platform to show that the brewing community is an inclusive place for everyone of any color. We are asking for all breweries and brewers far and wide to raise a glass with us in unison and participate in this collaboration.

In the collaboration efforts, we would ask for participating breweries to do the following:

-Donate 100% of the beer's proceeds to local foundations that support police brutality reform and legal defenses for those who have been wronged
-Choose their own entity to donate to local organizations that support equality and inclusion
-Commit to the long-term work of equality

Weathered Souls will personally be giving part of our proceeds to the Know Your Rights Campaign. As much as we want this to be about raising money, the real issue is bringing education and information, which will bring forth change to a system that has fractured so many families and has been broken for decades.

This platform and collaboration is about understanding and supporting people of color and inclusion. We ask that you please stand with us to create something that has never been seen before and show the world the brewing community is one of a kind.

For the beer we thought it be appropriate to brew a stout, as it is in the name of the initiative, Black is Beautiful. Weathered Souls will provide the recipe for the stout base, please place your own spin and love into this. The sky is the limit as far as creativity. KD Designs has done an excellent job of creating a label that we feel places the correct symbolism to the project. We ask that everyone use the label that has been provided. We will leave a space open on the label for everyone’s own logos and ideas.

As someone who has personally dealt with the abuse of power by the police, this recent turmoil the country is facing has hit home for me. As I write this, I contemplate how the country can move forward, how we as the people, can create change, and what it will take for everyone to move forward with a common respect for one another. For us, we feel that this is our contribution to a step.

Sometimes that’s all it takes for change."

—
Marcus B, Founder & Head Brewer @ Weathered Souls Brewing

https://blackisbeautiful.beer/…

We have spent a lot of time listening to those around us. As a result we have chosen the Dayton Unit NAACP as the organization any funds we raise to go toward. In doing so, we would also like to draw attention to the 8-Point plan being advocated for by the Dayton Unit NAACP. We urge everyone to speak out in their communities to see their local governments implement these 8-points, among others, as part of a means to address the serious and unacceptable reality of systemic racism and police brutality that is rampant in our society.

The 8 Points are as follows:

- Modifying and/or implementing a citizen’s review board with subpoena powers to investigate complaints made by the public regarding police officers.

- Create a more transparent process around accountability of officers who violate citizens’ constitutional rights, police ethics and departmental policies and procedures by making the officers’ names and their disciplinary records available to the public.

- Create a policy where officers who discharge their weapon and/or use excessive force on an unarmed person be suspended without pay pending an investigation. The officer’s name, policing history and additional information outlined in public records laws should be made public upon the disposition of the investigation and within a reasonable amount of time.

- Ensure transparency, accountability and safety of communities by requiring front-facing cameras to be actively recording all on-duty police officers. The department should also ensure at least two cruiser cameras are utilized in every cruiser, with one facing toward the street and the other toward the person in custody.

- Include an emphasis on mental health assessments, de-escalating conflicts and improving community relations in the core training of officers.

- Ban the use of knee holds and choke holds.

- Actively vet applicants and recruit officers who reflect and proportionally represent the community they serve. Use psychological evaluations in the hiring of officers. The number of applicants for available positions should be hired with regards to diversity and inclusion.

- Provide video of all fatal shootings and arrests, as well as incidents with alleged police brutality, in a reasonable amount of time.

This isn't a political issue. This is a human rights issue. The inequality of people of color in our society cannot be tolerated by anyone and it must not continue. The tyranny on public display toward protestors by our government and its enforcement arm across this country has to stop. The system is broken. Our social media reach is small in the grand scheme of things, but any one person we reach through this initiative is important.

In addition to the 8 points laid out by Dayton Unit NAACP, we would also like to advocate for the demilitarization of the police force, including a ban on use of tear gas and other "less lethal" ammunition on protestors exercising their constitutional right to assemble. A redirection of these funds toward community programs and approaches that are shown to lift up our citizens and prevent crime. The culture of our police departments have to change with a focus on de-escalation instead of force as a top-down approach in policing.

Expect the beer to be available sometime in late July here at Branch & Bone. There is no need to wait to donate to the cause nor is buying the beer necessary to help. Donate directly to the Dayton Unit NAACP through their website at https://naacpdayton.org/donate Speak out and actively make your voice heard that we will not tolerate the status quo. Information is power, lets all do our part in whatever way we can to be part of the solution.

HAPPY TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY AT BRANCH & BONE

June 2, 2020 John Joyce
image0(8).jpeg

Happy Two Year Anniversary here at Branch & Bone!

Today marks two years that we have been selling beer to our friends and family throughout the Dayton beer community. 2020 has been a whirlwind so far and unfortunately the current situation doesn't allow us to hold our traditional anniversary party. So instead we have a whole host of beer and merch packaged up for you for carryout and shipping orders. Here's a rundown of the lot:

Bourbon Barrel Feral Dawn - Imperial Stout Aged in Bourbon Barrels

Feral Dawn was one of the first beers brewed here at Branch & Bone. It was also our first beer to go into and come out of bourbon barrels. This hefty, roasty imperial stout melds with oak and bourbon character bringing forth a rich, dark chocolate, fudgy character. We are extremely happy with how this came out and hope you enjoy it as well. $14.99/500ml bottle

Apple Brandy Barrel Feral Dawn - Imperial Stout Aged in Apple Brandy Barrels

It was happenstance that these barrels were available to us right when Feral Dawn was ready for barrels. The bright and unique character of the Apple Brandy barrel shines here with the chocolate notes from the base still present. Our first variant bottle of Feral Dawn with may more planned for the future! $15.99/500ml bottle

Cosmic Slop – IPA 6.8% ABV

Making its most triumphant return, this otherworldly IPA features loads of Galaxy and Citra hops. The hop combination brings about passion fruit and other soft tropical fruit notes as well as the citrus punch beloved of Citra hops. $15.99/4 pack 16oz cans

Peach Tea Berliner 5.2% ABV

The return of Peach Tea Berliner. This will be our first re-release of a beer in cans, and there isn't a better choice than this one. Always a crowd favorite, this version has reached the perfect balance of flavor, complexity, and sourness.
$14.99/4 pack 16oz cans

Mirage - West Coast IPA 7% ABV

A rarity around here, a clear IPA! This West Coast IPA is packed full of Centennial and Chinook on the hot side and then heavily dry hopped with Citra and Mosaic. Backed by a solid but smooth bitterness, the piney, resinous notes blend perfectly with the citrus and tropical fruit flavors and aromas to create a balanced ode to the classic style. $15.99/4 pack 16oz cans

Anniversary Glass

This multi color, full wrap pint glass alternative is the perfect glass for our canned beers The logo etching in the bottom of the glass helps release bubbles to keep the aroma coming while you enjoy the beer. $10 each.

Anniversary Feral Dawn Shirt

Feral Dawn is synonymous with our anniversary here at Branch & Bone. It's our yearly beer release and it's only fitting to grace our anniversary shirt with its artwork. $20 each.

Everything is available now on our online store at https://branch-bone-artisan-ales.myshopify.com/ While supplies last for pickup in the taproom at your convenience! Everything excluding crolwers and glassware are available for shipping throughout the state of Ohio. We are not shipping crowlers or glassware currently and we are only available to ship within the state of Ohio. No exceptions. Thanks for your understanding.

2 years of your love and support have gotten us to here. We could not be here doing what we love and getting to add continuously to our Branch & Bone family without all of you. While we cant enjoy a pour together currently, we hope that these great items keep you pleased until we can once again share company and beers together in our taproom.

Cheers!

UPDATE ON CURRENT AFFAIRS

May 12, 2020 John Joyce
96796344_1150520898641488_9102487867321483264_o.jpg

Given the current state of affairs in Ohio regarding COVID-19 as it relates to the health and safety of our employees and customers, we have made the difficult decision to NOT open our patio this Friday, May 15th, for on site consumption.

We will continue to operate a carry-out and shipping operation at this time as we evaluate how and when it is best handled to safely and effectively offer on site consumption in a manner that will provide an acceptable and safe experience in our taproom. We will keep everyone updated as we monitor and evaluate the situation. Once we feel it makes sense to do so, we will outline the rigorous steps and expectations for how we will re-open for on site consumption in order to ensure the safety of all involved.

These are decisions that aren’t easy and require thought and consideration for many variables and their impact. We appreciate your understanding and support through all of this. There is nothing we want more than to serve you in a way that you’ve come to expect out of our taproom and to reconnect with all of our friends and family over a beer. As soon as we feel it is safe and makes sense for us to do so, we will gladly welcome you all back to the taproom for on-site consumption (with specific guidelines, of course).

In the meantime, look out for more new releases for carryout in the near future. Stay safe out there and we can’t thank you enough for the support and understanding you have all showed us. Cheers!

March 16, 2020 John Joyce
image0(3).jpeg

Here is all the info we have at this time:

As you all know, the COVID-19 outbreak has forced the closure of all bars and restaurants for on-site consumption. The state is currently allowing us to operate in a carry-out only fashion. We launched our Online Ordering site at https://branch-bone-artisan-ales.myshopify.com/ last week in anticipation of this occurring.

Hours of Operation until further notice:

Tuesday - Friday 2-8pm
Saturday - Sunday 11am-8pm
Closed Monday

We have cans and bottles available for purchase and also offering growler fills of available draft beer.

Growler Fill Policy:

Due to concerns associated with COVID-19 outbreak, we will be only filling our branded 750ml and 2L swing top growlers such that we can assure sanitation. If you bring in one of our branded growlers we will fill a new/sanitized growler for you in exchange for your empty Branch & Bone branded growler. We will then take all exchanged growlers and sanitize them in our brewhouse for future use. Sorry for any inconvenience this causes but is necessary for us to continue to safely serve you.

Concerning our Online Ordering System

We encourage everyone to utilize our Online Ordering system in order for us to facilitate your purchases and to limit time spent inside the taproom. CONCERNING THE CURRENT COVID-19 SITUATION

March 12, 2020 John Joyce
o.jpg

As everyone is aware at this point, we are all facing a very serious public health threat. I assure you we are still open as a place for folks to relax with a beer and comforting conversation. MARCH ARTIST SHOWCASE: MIKEE HUBER

February 24, 2020 John Joyce
pixlr_20200219135933219.jpg

Join us Saturday March 7th as we welcome our featured artist for the month, Mikee Huber, to the taproom.

DETOURS. A shut door, a closed road, a plan that did not work out, all can redirect you to new adventures and experiences. Unfinished paintings that were once shelved awaiting new inspiration, took on a new life. Mikee's interest in topographic views of rural countrysides, and aerial perspectives of big cities, combine with her love of mid-century modern color in the 'Detour' series.

Viewers can follow the twists and turns connecting the color fields and grids which lead the viewer along an engaging journey. Where do you want to go?

CONNECTIONS. Many unique and interesting people call the Miami Valley home with bridges and roads connecting neighborhoods and suburbs; yet we have connections and experiences that bridge our different lifestyles and neighborhoods in various ways. We come together through our colorful cultural festivals and events; delicious dining options; fun metroparks, and our amazing arts scene, all of which contribute to the cultural richness of the Miami Valley.

Inspired by Mikee's 'Detour' series of paintings with lines directing the viewer down new paths to explore what is around each bend of a line, 'Connections' represents how each individual in the Miami Valley comes together to learn about each other, the neighborhoods, and the various cultures. Our connections help strengthen Dayton and the Miami Valley.

Mikee's art will be available for purchase and will be on display for the entire month. So come on in Saturday for art and a beer as we celebrate Mikee and her work here at Branch & Bone!

FERBRUARY ARTIST SHOWCASE: LAUREL BAERTSCHI

Join us Friday February 7th as we welcome Laurel Baertschi to the taproom as our Featured Artist of the month! We are very excited to have one of our Branch & Bone Family members grace us with beautiful pieces of art here in our taproom. Not only is it inspiring to have one of our employees hang up parts of their hard work, but these pieces stand out in a whole different way. Laurel creates with stained glass!

Laurel has been living in Dayton for 5 years now. Being born and raised in San Diego she has always had a great appreciation for art but never created herself. That all changed about 3 years ago when a group of friends introduced her to stained glass. When asked about making art out of glass she had this to say: “I never considered creating myself until I was introduced to the medium of stained glass by other artists in the field. I fell in love with it. It is a very forgiving art form. The material itself is so beautiful. It’s hard to mess up! I find much inspiration from the natural world and my pieces primarily reflect floral and aquatic images. I love to experiment with color and structure and see how each piece unfolds.”

Just one glimpse at Laurel’s work and you can feel the inspiration she’s portraying in each piece of glass. Colorful and delicate with precision, the art she creates is definitely something to see. Join us for awesome art and delicious beer as we celebrate with Laurel for her first Artist Showcase.
